Whether you're a developer, house flipper or interior designer, it's time to consider switching out the white shaker cabinets, Carrara tops and subway tile.

Why change a good thing you ask?
Why change a good thing you ask?

For the past 15 years, we've seen these classic finishes everywhere. But like anything else, the trend is changing. There's no denying that Pinterest feeds are seeing less grey and white. Consumers who keep up with trends are looking for warmth, color, and texture.

Another reason to invest in a new design scheme is that in a slower real estate market, home buyers and renters have their choice in homes that all look alike. The home that stands out is the one with unique design selections. Buyers prefer to invest in a house on the edge of a new trend rather than an old one.

When I worked as a real estate agent, I remember just how much buyers would go over budget for a house with unique finishes. They would somehow find an extra 5% of the home's value for a cool backsplash, unique bathroom vanities, and a dream closet. Cookie-cutter design won't help your listing stand out.
